The Eye of the Forest

I have told my story to numerous men and all thought of me as a lunatic.I fear I will never be free now, and my frustration is driving me to the point that i believe I am going mad. My story began on a cool winter afternoon. I had just left my house for a walk in the woods when i found myself lost. This was a normal thing for me. Being a journeyman and completely capable of finding my way back I continued. within an hour I decided to turn back and find my way home. To my surprise I was unable to find my way. I wandered like a rat in a maze unable to find my way home. I walked for close to a half an hour before I came to what I thought was the edge of the forest. as I walked out of the cover of the forest I found myself in A mile wide clearing. as I crossed it I realized that there was nothing living within the clearing. No grass not even weeds. I reentered the forest and tried once again to find my way home. I'm not sure if my ears deceived me but once I thought I heard music playing distantly. I walked for at least an hour. It had to be at least 5pm. The forest was getting dark and as I looked around I saw the distant glow of light. I walked towards it pleading with fate to let it be my way out. as I exited into the clearing for a second time I noticed something different. In the center was a monolith lit up by torch lights. As I approached I noticed a slab of pavement behind the monolith. The beginning supports of a building. I looked up at the monolith and read "Welcome to the Eye of the forest" Frightened by the structures that had sprung up over hours I left the clearing a second time. I was quick walking now eager to get home but as walked I once again saw the familiar glow of torch lights. Upon entering the clearing i came upon an unexpected sight. it had only seemed an hour since i had last been here and now before me stood an entire village. As I walked through the open gate I was greeted by music and a celebration going on through the village. Everything seemed so old fashioned. From the way the buildings looked to the way the villagers dressed. It was as if i had walked into the 1700's. The villagers thought me as insane when I told them my story. They claimed the village had been there for years. They all thought I was just delusional due to being lost in the forest for so long. They gave me a place to sleep and told me to rest. So I did, but not before eating some food from what ever celebration they were having. The next morning I told the villagers that I had to leave. It was then that their leader finally told me there was no where to leave to. He said that they had often lost people to the endless forest and they had never seen anything of the outside world. I left anyway. I walked for what seemed like hours and finally ended up back in the clearing. I walked into the village which seemed different. Everything looked sort of worn and old. I was met by a burst of excitement. The villagers greeted me exclaiming that I had been gone for months. I told them I had been gone for mearly hours. They began to think that wandering in the forest had driven me insane. I rested for the night and went back out of the clearing with no intention of reentering the forest. I walked until i couldn't walk any further always avoiding the distant torch light glowing when i spotted it. I slept against a tree that night. I woke to the sound of music in my ears very distantly but distinct. I walked toward the distant glow feeling the need for food but as i got closer I realized the glow was different, artificial in a way. I ran in my excitement only to be disappointed by the view of the clearing. my eyes searched for the wooden walls and the village but only met with a stone wall with a normal looking town. I eventually realized that this was the village once again. It had just been through alot since i had last been there. As I entered the village I was met with amazed stares from once young men now old. Their children now young men and women. telling my story one last time I was imprisoned. They still didn't believe me. Now I sit here alone in a cell. I have tried many escape attempts but i fear I will soon go mad with the frustration of being Lost in the Eye of the Forest.
